Always the Same

Timmy wasn’t too sure about “Hope and Change” in a political sense, but he thought  he should be able to effect some change on something if he tried hard enough.  In spite of that, his blog “Make the sun set in the south” just wasn’t getting any petition signers; in fact, there were almost no hits on the blog at all.  It was always the same–the sun sank in the west, and nobody cared. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Shortcut

While examining the damage to the barrier islands on New Jersey’s coast, Ginny, one of the Governor’s aides, thought that she would skip the sidewalk and take what appeared to be a shortcut.  She was just glad that she hadn’t worn the Jimmy Choo’s. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

No Braces

The dentist visiting the Texas Gulf Coast for the winter had kindly offered  to provide braces at no cost to straighten Lucinda’s beak for that slick Hollywood look. However, she reasoned that the curve in her beak gave her character, and she didn’t want to put up with the teasing having braces would certainly generate for her two last years of high school. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

The Kiss

As a child, Manny had heard the fairy tales about the girl kissing a frog and the frog turning into a handsome, wealthy prince. Then there was this Jimmy guy on Saturday morning fishing shows that kissed all the bass he caught before releasing them or putting them in the cooler.  Manny couldn’t recall any legends that involved kissing sharks, but he hoped two things; that the shark was really dead, and that his wife never found out . . . .  David, Sf.G.

A Troubling Thought

While wading in the water just off the public beach, Bob saw a convoy of black vans and pursuit cars skid to a halt not far from him in the sand.  As the armed SWAT teams got out, the leader, using a bullhorn, told Bob, “Don’t worry, we’re from the Internet,” but he was not comforted.   Bob realized that he had been caught breaking the rules; he had placed the same ad on Craigslist twice at the same time in the same city,  using two two separate E-mail addresses . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Further Than it Looks on the Map

When Gwen told her friends that she had always wanted to visit Cuba, they told her, “Look at the map, it looks like it’s just over the horizon.”  On the map, the distance from Galveston to Cuba was only a couple of fingers wide, but once under way it seemed to be farther than it looked . . . . .  David, Sf.G.
