New Glasses

Billy Sue-Beth’s family was moving from the Texas Gulf Coast to New York, where Billy Sue-Beth would be enrolled in high school.  Billy Sue-Beth was worried that her Texas Gulf Coast accent would make fitting in with her NYNY class mates difficult.  She was also concerned about her new glasses . . . . . With Regrets

While Al Gore’s new autobiography revealed many well-known facts about the innovator–such as inventing the Internet, inventing computer generated music (for his band, The AlGoreRhythms), inventing wind (actually, just channeling political rhetoric, the same thing)–he had one big regret.  That was inventing oil, which he had intended only for lubricating wind and water powered equipment, but once the djinn was out of the bottle, well. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

SXSW Festival

The turnout for the SXSW film festival in Austin drew the usual crowd of Glitterati–Cher, Al Gore and his band the AlGoreRhythms, Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Donald Trump, Michelle Obama–even Al Sharpton made it as a guest of Spike Lee, as did  three Marilyn Monroe, four Elvis and one Richard Nixon look-alikes (oddly, no Michael Jackson look-alikes), but when Willie Nelson showed up (possibly under the influence of mind-altering substances) with his trumpet, and claimed that he was Miles Davis reincarnated, it was suggested that he “quit tooting his own horn”. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Think Pink

When word of the Pink concert to be held in Houston hit, some of the Texas girls decided to go, but instead of the usual “Think Pink” or “We Love Pink” T-shirts, theirs said “Quit politickin’ and telling us all how to run the world and who to vote for, and just sing”  . . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Looking Over His Shoulder

To get a larger tax refund, Jurgen’s girl friend (now ex-girlfriend) had encouraged him to claim the interest payments on his home mortgage, even though he was almost a year in arrears on payments and about to be foreclosed on.  She talked Jurgen into using the money for a Mexican vacation in Cancun, but now, with the house gone, he was looking over his shoulder wondering when the tax man was going to come and get him.  . . . .  David, Sf.G.
