Chewbacca’s Sister

The Princess Buttercup, also know as Polly Wolly Poodle All The Day, had endured substantial abuse–including being called Fuzz Face–for what was perceived as poor grooming until she came home from the Star Wars convention with the coveted Chewbacca’s Sister award and trophy as well as a boxed set of all of the first edition Star Wars DVD’s autographed by Chewy himself . . .

Fish Scent

Jerome, always the butt of the joke, had been told by his buddies at the local bar that if he just put his nose under water at the river, he could smell fish, and as the scent got stronger, the fish would be approaching, and he could catch them. It didn’t seem to be working all that well . . .

Swimming Upstream

His new job seemed to be going OK, but when he was trying to suggest easier or faster ways to get the job done, the bureaucracy made him feel like he was swimming upstream in a tough current. . . . . David, Sf.G.

Future Unclear

The Princess Buttercup hoped her snow globe would be like the crystal ball she kept hearing that politicos from Washington DC used to project winning candidates, and hedge fund managers from Wall Street relied on to project stock picks.  No matter how hard she concentrated or peered into the thing, the picture didn’t seem to change very much.   Perhaps, she thought, her future lay elsewhere than the prognostication business . . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Not the Beach

In spite of getting all sweaty and having to use sun block every couple of hours, there was a certain attraction to the Texas Gulf Coast beach.  Jim thought if he moved to Galveston,  maybe he could get the dogs to run along the water’s edge pulling him on a surf board . . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Sticks and Stones

Since moving to the new school mid term, Twyla and all of her brothers and sisters had been stuck with awful nicknames; Twyla became Twinkie; Carla, Cupcake; Domingo became Ding Dong; Sonia became Snowball; and Josefina became Ho Ho.  In spite of the school counselor’s advice about “Sticks and stones etc”, it was just awful to be named after second rate, long shelf-life snack items no one admitted to eating  . . . .  David, Sf.G.
