No Takers

Seeing many professional and college athletic teams bowing to political correctness and changing their names from a Native American variation to something else caused Howard make a concerted effort to get one of the teams to be named “The Cottontails” but had no takers.  He thought them shortsighted.  Cottontails were fast– legendary sprinters–and could (and would) really dig in when the going got rough.  What more could a team ask for in a mascot and namesake?

Don’t Let It Bug You

Igor and Jose were wrestlers: Igor (top) was known as “The Yellow Peril” and Jose (bottom) went by the title “The Rainbow Avenger”.  After a recent appearance on one of the ESPN channels  featuring the new sport of insect wrestling, they were inundated with e-mails claiming that wrestling–whether insect, mud wrestling, or any other type of wrestling–was fake.  “Don’t let it  bug you,” said their coach; “the girls still like you, and the checks seem to be clearing . . .”

Wrong Goalkeeper

When Ernest told his beer drinking buddies he had applied for and been rejected as goalkeeper for the U.S. Football ( Soccer) team for the World Cup, they all laughed and pointed out you had to be quick, lithe, and agile to be a winning goalkeeper.  Once the U.S. was out, Earnest was quick to point out to his buddies that their theory on quick, lithe, and agile versus bulky hadn’t worked out all that well, had it . . . ?
