Modern Ranching

After getting his degrees in animal husbandry and ranch science from the University of Phoenix (on line), Chick had applied for and gotten a Federal grant to try to raise native prairie dogs to feed hungry raptors and coyotes.  He wished there was a way to prevent those stupid cows and the horses from stepping on some of his little herd; it not only ruined a good meal, it drew those loathsome vultures . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Atypical

Charlie had always had three points on one side of his antlers and four on the other; the does were intrigued and called it cute–maybe the cutest in Glacier Park.  Then one day, two hunter types drove in with a gun rack in their truck, saw Charlie, and one said to the other, “Nice atypical,” while pointing at him.  He didn’t know what that meant, but he hoped the girls didn’t hear; it couldn’t be good could it?. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Jus’ Fiddlin’ Around

While on a short break, the director of the Bach chamber music quartet heard one of the violin players do a quick version of the old Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli tune, “Minor Swing,” and asked, “What IS that?”  Her answer was “jus’ fiddlin’ around”. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Girls’ Night Out

Chloe, Twyla and Lu Anne all agreed; they needed a girls’ night out.  The problem came when deciding on what to do. Chloe wanted to go to the sushi bar and maybe have some sake; Twyla wanted to see the new Slasher/Texas Chainsaw Massacre  flick; and Lu Anne wanted to see Cirque du Soleil, who happened to be in town, or the local production of “Cats”.  There didn’t seem to be a lot of common ground. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Wrong Turn

While heading for a tailgating party at the Huskers football game, Joel had gotten quite caught up in a talk show program about politics. It wasn’t until his wife pointed out the low fuel light, and the kids asked, “Are we there yet?”  that he looked up to see where he was. As he looked around,  he was pretty sure it wasn’t the Huskers stadium. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Ground Hog Day

Being a ground hog wasn’t a bad job; you only had to work one day a year and sleep close to half a year in hibernation (or was that estivation?)  Luigi wondered why, after years–in fact, generations–of loyal service, they couldn’t send the ground hogs to Florida and Disney World for at least part of the winter.  No matter what kind of fancy mattress you have, you do get some cramps and kinks in your back after the first month or so of hibernation (or was that estivation?)  And who wouldn’t want to see Goofy? . . . .  David, Sf.G.
