Hard Times for Country Boys

Quincy (not his real name–he doesn’t have one) had heard about all of the jobs in Texas, but they were all in the city–it was still hard times for country boys. It was hard sometimes just to keep his head above water . . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Naming contest:  Quincy is an assumed name; his mother left before he was hatched, so he was never given a name.  Please send us your name suggestions for our little guy (he’s about 3 1/2′ and lives in our front yard pond).  One point–we aren’t really sure if Quincy’s a boy or girl–he/she refused to sign the consent form for a more thorough examination. And just because a famous personality may be using a name, doesn’t mean we wouldn’t consider it. The winner will be chosen based on quixotic desire and whimsey, no logic will be employed in the final choice.  The winner will get a copy of my Gulf Coast Photo Tour, which is about 400 photos like those you see in the AGR everyday, but all are from our areas of the Texas Gulf Coast.  To send your name suggestions, just hit reply or send it to [email protected].  AGR now has about 300 regular subscribers.

Water Pollution

Candace had just had a nice meal of cotton rats and thought she would lie in the warm waters of the creek and relax.  Soon, though, the EPA was there, citing her for not having a downstream discharge license after recycling those cotton rats. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Endangered Species

Though not on the list himself, Eduardo wished he had paid more attention to the Endangered species list  before dining and ending up in jail.  Sure, it was a low security “Club Fed” type  jail, but who would have thought  eating a monkey, bird, anteater, or lizard would have brought this kind of a problem.  In his mind protein was protein. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

No More Hello Kitty

Gina knew before she took the job at the Belize Zoo that this gig would involve a certain amount of unpleasantness–people staring, it would be difficult to get a decent nap, the usual–but she had to lay down the law.   Any young girl wearing a Hello Kitty shirt, dress, coveralls, hat or scarf would have to change before entering the zoo, and all Hello Kitty paraphernalia had to be left in the parking lot. And if they said “hello kitty” in any language, including American Sign Language, she got to eat them. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Pollster Blues

Lonnie (pictured) had recently gotten his first cell phone and a wireless tablet, and apparently someone had immediately data mined his information and sold it to the pollsters.  Just today he was asked what he thought of the Trayvon Martin case, the stand your ground laws, Obama Care, immigration reform and did he prefer WalMart over Target?   Maybe his pre-wireless ignorance had been bliss . . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Understanding Obamacare

When Larry’s accountant finally explained what he thought (though he was still unclear on) about how Obamacare would affect Larry and his herd, Larry did the only thing he could think of —he headed for Canada with the girls and the kids. . . .  David, Sf.G.
