About David Mortenson
I'm David Mortenson. I've traveled widely in my business and frequently photo-documented various business projects. I have been fortunate in being able to photograph nature, culture, interesting architecture and the like while abroad in Europe and Asia and across the Americas. As you'll see in looking at Another Good Reason, nature is my favorite subject, be it flowers, bees, birds, spiders, snakes, or bears. I'm also fascinated by patterns, man-made or natural, and doors. You will see all of these subjects in these photo-cartoons, as well as interesting and beautiful architecture and landscapes. While beautiful is also interesting, some interesting things may not always be beautiful, while still being photo-worthy.
The basic concept for Another Good Reason is a photograph--beautiful and/or interesting--with a short, 2 or 3 line story with quirky humor not unlike Gary Larsen's "The Far Side". Often the flower, bird, or other subject of the photo will have a funny story to tell or a problem to solve. The goal is to entertain without negatively targeting any ethnic group, religion, political party, or nationality. Public figures, however, are fair game. Lady GaGa, Al Gore, or anyone in the headlines has or will have a story about them.
There's a wide variety of excellent photography equipment out there, but I've been a Nikon photographer for years because of their sharp, crisp lenses and "bulletproof" gear.
Judy quickly learned that teaching ballroom dancing was not as easy as she had imagined when more than one pair of legs per student was involved. Maybe the “Watusi” or the “Locomotion” or “The Twist” would work better . . .
When the county water quality board caught Geneva using bubble bath, not only did they ticket her, but they also reported her to the State people and the US FDA. They suggested she just go through the car wash . . .
Greg (pictured), though a high-mileage frequent flier, was thinking about giving up flying; the invasive full body scan (who knew what long term danger that posed?) or the equally invasive pat down both seemed to be going way too far. He did wonder about the guy who told the TSA screener, “Don’t touch my junk;” Greg thought much more highly of his individual biological components than that.
True, Jenny was an owl, and also true some of her extended family did live in or near barns, but she was an uptown girl girl living in the fancy masonry of libraries, theater marquees, and courthouses. Hardly a common “barn owl . . .”
The Lefties said she wasn’t blue enough, the Righties said she wasn’t red enough, some girl singer said she was infringing on her “PINK” trademark, and the Feds said she needed an environmental impact statement and Federal permit or she had to quit growing and spreading pollen on Federal land . . .
Because Handel’s music was considered “classical” (in fact, Baroque would be more accurate), Judy (pictured, 14th row, 6th from the right) was surprised at the turnout–all ages, all races, both genders–at the free concert at the Lincoln Memorial. But then it was Handel’s Royal Fireworks Concert, complete with a massive fireworks display at the conclusion. Was that Maxine Waters and her BFF Sheila Jackson Lee with the Trumps . . .?
