Rising Above It
In spite of petty comments by the rest of the students at a rural Oregon school, the Girl Artists group decided to rise above it . . .
Like alligators (everyone else has crocodiles and caimans), rattlesnakes are found only in the Americas. Huey wondered where they got their rattle. After several difficult months and the freedom of information act, he discovered that rattles were grown in a covert, organic rattle farm in Oregon and drop shipped to each rattlesnake several times a year, no charge, courtesy of the government. Now, lack of funding made it likely the program would be cut, and another unique North American species would become ordinary.
Sally had always liked the old country song “The Yellow Rose of Texas,” but it really wasn’t her, and there was just something off about “The Yellow Pea of Oregon” . . .
