Send Money

On one of the educational channels, Johnny had seen how the ancient Incas in Peru had made huge designs that could only be seen from space, and now farmers in the US were creating corn mazes with designs that can only be seen from high flying planes or satellites.  Some (including Johnny) speculated that these designs were meant to be attempts to communicate with aliens from outer space, so with that in mind, he made his rice irrigation levees to look like dollar signs from above, clearly sending his favorite message to the aliens:  “Send Money.”. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Gone Viral

It had started as a whisper, quickly became a rumor, then went viral:  The whisper was that they and all the other leaves would turn from rich verdant green to yellow, orange, brown or red and then fall off, and worse, this happened every year! . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Burning Daylight

Chuckie had heard John Wayne exclaim, “We’re Burnin’ Daylight!” in a number of his movies, especially in “The Cowboys,” and always wondered what it meant.  After visiting the Texas Gulf Coast, he thought he was beginning to understand . . . . . David, Sf.G.

Water Runs Downhill

Chester’s wife Chloe was a reader and fact gatherer, but she really liked to pontificate.  She had read seven different versions or translations of the Bible, read the Koran twice, the Bhagavad Gita and the I Ching once each, and had gotten half way through the Encyclopedia Britannica before it went online.   Chester was more of a beer and sports sort of guy, so when she saw the little mountain creek on the way to the Poas volcano in Costa Rica and started  to tell him about the water cycle, he said, “Wait, I know three things:  Friday is payday, water runs downhill and beer is a vital source of vitamin P.  That’s all I need for now, thank you very much. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

Baby Shower

Shirlette (middle row , third from left) had anticipated the usual shower, but once again, it had turned into a downpour, flooding everything.  The Channel 11 weather man had promised light showers, but, as usual, he was wrong.  She wondered if the Truth In Advertising laws might apply; she made a note on her iPhone to email her congressman about it. . . . .  David, Sf.G.

The Finger

The rock finger in the Arizona desert had been there far longer than any of them.  The oldest Indians claimed that the people that came before them said it pointed to the North Star; the scientific wags claimed it was a sign of earth’s contempt for mankind in general; yet others said it was nature checking to see which way the wind was blowing.  The only thing everyone agreed on was that it was consistent, it hadn’t moved much. . . . .  David, Sf.G.
