Tom Jones

Mockery

Timothy, a true mockingbird,  could imitate anyone, Vladimir Putin, Ronald Reagan, Billy Mays, Madonna,  any of the British royals, Lady Gaga . . . anyone.  He was growing frantic, though; if he didn’t develop a style of his own, he’d be condemned to B list hotel lounges doing Elvis, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Jones requests for drunk tourists and road warriors for the rest of his life . . .

Haiku

The boys were getting ready for spring mating, practicing their love songs and hoping for the best.  Jim and LeRoy (center) were going to try a duet–the Everly Brothers’ Unchained Melody; Thom (left) was practicing his Tom Jones version of What’s New Pussy Cat? ; and Izzy (right)  was going to try something different– Japanese Haiku–hoping the cosmopolitan, intellectual, brainy approach might attract a better class of mate. . .

Elvis Impersonator

Tex had been too embarrassed to sing very loud in high school, but with the anonymity of a Karaoke bar, all restraints were lifted.  Tex had prepared a series of Elvis songs, including Jail House Rock and Heartbreak Hotel, and he thought he sounded pretty good.    His friends who were honest enough to speak frankly said, “No, it was more like a combination of Bob Dylan and Madonna with Tom Jones overtones”. . . . .  David, Sf.G.
